Chelmsford Cemetery and Crematorium
Set in tranquil surroundings just off Writtle Road, Chelmsford Cemetery and Crematorium has a choice of two peaceful chapels where our Co-op Funeral Directors can arrange a funeral service to pay tribute to your loved one.
The North Chapel has 26 seats and provides an intimate setting for a small number of people. The larger South Chapel has 108 seats and is flooded with light from the garden outside.
Both provide the perfect setting for a religious, non-religious or humanist service – or, if you prefer, no service at all.
Our Funeral Directors can take care of all the necessary arrangements for you, liaising with the Superintendent at Chelmsford Cemetery and Crematorium over finding a suitable time for the funeral to take place.
During the funeral service
Once the congregation is seated, our pallbearers will bring the coffin into the chapel and your chosen minister or celebrant will conduct the service, agreed with you in advance.
They will have spent time with you in advance to find out more about your loved one, in order to create a special and personalised tribute.
There are a number of options available in terms of music as both chapels have an electronic organ; we can provide an organist who can play live music for you.
Alternatively, you can choose from a wide selection of recorded music through the Obitus Music system, which can be viewed online here. If you can’t see the music you would like, our Funeral Directors can request commercially available music to be added.
A visual tribute, including personal photographs, can be arranged in both Chapels, while other options are available such as broadcasting the service securely over the internet for those unable to attend or recording the service onto USB storage. These incur additional fees.
After the funeral service
Once the service is over, a burial or cremation will follow. It is possible to have a service at a local church instead and then proceed to the graveside at the cemetery. Mourners will also be invited to visit the floral tribute area in the grounds.
If you have arranged a cremation, you will also be asked what you would like to do with the cremated remains, which may be collected by yourself or our Funeral Directors, or may be interred or stored at the cemetery.
You can also view the Book of Remembrance in the Memorial Chapel; the book features handcrafted inscriptions for each day of the year.
