“Does a funeral service have to be religious?” June 6, 2024

This is a question we get asked a lot, and no, a funeral service does not have to be religious. It is entirely down to the deceased’s beliefs and the loved ones making the funeral arrangements.

While many people choose religious ceremonies, there are alternative options that focus on celebrating the individual’s life and meeting the family’s needs. Civil celebrants and humanist celebrants can lead non-religious or personalized services. Family members or close friends and acquaintances can also. Ultimately, the choice depends on your loved one’s beliefs and your family’s preferences.
