Christmas Memorial Tree Lighting to be streamed online November 29, 2022

Speakers from the service

With Christmas fast approaching, we’re keenly aware of the absence of loved ones in our lives. This is why, for well over a decade, we’ve been holding an annual Christmas Memorial event. This year, with many of our clients nervous of a coronavirus resurgence, we’ve made the decision to hold a limited service online once again.

Last year, due to government restrictions surrounding COVID-19, we held a live-streamed event, presenting a slimmed-down version of the most popular elements via our Facebook page (@yourlocalfuneraldirector). We were pleasantly surprised by the level of comfort the video brought, with many leaving comments and memories throughout the short service.

This year we will be once again live-streaming a short Christmas Memorial service on Facebook. Taking place at 4pm on Friday 16th December, the service will include both religious and non-religious readings, a lone piper, and the traditional blessing of a Christmas tree.

Families will once again have the chance to send us messages or memories of their loved ones (you can contact us here) and we’ll transfer those thoughts to special memorial tags and will hang them on the tree. Memorial tags will also be available for you to collect from our branches from 8th December.

The event will be Compered by Peter Moule and the Order of Service is as follows:

  • Opening Words from Co-op Funeral Directors
  • A few words from Reverend Reid
  • Bagpiper – “The Sky Boat Song”
  • A poem from Carolyn Turrall
  • Lighting of the Christmas tree
  • The Lord’s Prayer – Reverend Reid
  • Closing Words from Co-op Funeral Directors
  • Bagpiper – “Amazing Grace”

When: Friday 16th December at 4pm

Duration: Approx 20 minutes

We recommend you like and follow the page before the event to make sure you don’t miss the live-stream, though it will be made available on our website the following week. Please feel free to comment and share your memories during the live-streaming.
